Direction of arrival estimation using microphone arrays

We use the MUltiple SIgnal Classification (MUSIC) method on microphone array readings to identify the direction of arrival of incident waves based on the geometry of the array. We increase the robustness of the method to array noise by modifying it to use the group delay of the phase of the received signal. We implement this MUSIC-group delay method on planar arrays.

Resource allocation in wireless Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) networks

We developed a heuristic to allocate resources in single-carrier FDMA communication systems, the heuristic solved a linear program instead of the optimal set-partitioning solution. We also studied the Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) of OFDM signals and proposed a method to reduce PAPR using pulse shaping. The method used gradient descent to optimize the parameters of a chosen family of pulse shapes.
