Design Team B Concept Aircraft:
Many aircraft exist which have the capacity to carry up to ten (10) passengers and their over-
night baggage over medium distances at efficient speeds. In determining a finalized conceptual
design for our aircraft, Design Team B studied the characteristics of many of these aircraft.
The benchmarks for our conceptual design were chosen to be the Beechcraft KingAir 350
and the Pilatus PC-12. Our conceptual design is a combination of the performance character-
istics of these aircraft. The design requirements and objectives for our conceptual design are
given below:
Aircraft Design Requirements:
-
Twelve person (12) capacity
Ten (10) passengers
Two (2) flight crew members
-
Maximum Useful Load: 2,800 lbs.
12 persons @ 170 lbs. each
Baggage @ 60 lbs. per person
-
Ability to operate out of high density-altitude airports.
- Ability to operate out of short, unimproved airstrips.
- Multi-engine (2) turbine aircraft.
- Average flight range: 450 nm (at maximum useful load)
- Maximum Range: 1200 nm (not at full passenger capacity)
- Cruise Altitude: 20,000-25,000 ft.
- Maximum Cruise Speed: 300 kts. (~315 mph)
- All weather flight capability.
- Operation under FAR Part 23 flight regulations.
Aircraft Design Objectives:
- Maximize payload
- Maximize range
- Minimize fuel burn ==> Maximize endurance
- Minimize time of flight
- Maximize takeoff and landing performance
maximum rate of climb
minimum takeoff/landing distance
