Homework 6: Low Altitude Climb
Problem Statement
The aircraft of Problem 5 is required by the FAA to climb out at speeds
less than 250 knots EAS when below 10,000 ft. Assume the aircraft flies
at this flight speed, at full throttle, taking off from sea level.
Calculate thrust required/thrust available characteristics at
5 altitudes, at least, sufficient to determine:
-
Rate of climb in ft/min vs altitude from sealevel to 10,000 ft
-
Time to climb vs altitude
Submit:
-
A report guided by the format given here
-
Plot of flight speed vs altitude
-
Plot of rate of climb vs altitude
-
Plot of time to climb vs altitude
-
Thrust required/thrust available curve at sea level, 5000 ft, 10000
ft
Mark the flight speed on each plot
-
Printout of
-
Source code for the calculations (Fortran or C)
-
Input and output files
Note: Code should be well-documented with appropriate comments with
liberal use of subroutine (or function) routines.
