HOMEWORK #8
Due Mon April 15
A light aircraft has the following characteristics:
- straight, rectangular wing
- chord=4.86 ft
- span =35.8 ft
- weight = 2950 lb
It is flying straight and level under the following
flight conditions:
- standard sea level
- speed 200 ft/s
- Assume the flow over the wing is fully turbulent and
estimate:
- boundary layer thickness at the trailing edge, top surface (inches)
- total skin friction drag (pounds)
- Assume the flow over the wing is fully laminar and
estimate:
- boundary layer thickness at the trailing edge, top surface (inches)
- total skin friction drag (pounds)
- Estimate the induced drag (pounds)
Assume flat plate boundary layer relations hold well enough for these estimates
